We have good news to share with you. Hundreds of people in our area have suffered like you and found relief. The answer lies in getting into our office and following a very specific plan based on your exam and X-rays, if indicated. We have a 95% success rate with migraine. The latest research indicates that at least 86% of headaches are cervicogenic, meaning that they originate in the neck and cervical spine.
Here is some shocking news: Over a lifetime, only 1% of us escape headaches altogether.
Over a year, it is estimated that 90% of the population get at least 1 headache. About 16-17% of the population gets a migraine headache sometime in their life – that means over a billion people worldwide at some point get migraine. The World Health Organization estimated in 2003 that 303 million people worldwide were migraineurs. Migraines cause losses into the millions and billions when people start missing work. 90% of this problem comes from those with severe migraines; many people with less severe pain plunge ahead. However, even this causes a loss of productivity. Dr. Walter Stewart of Geisinger Health Systems in Pennsylvania says that over any 2 weeks 1 in 8 people are losing productive time from some kind of pain. If this is you, you’re certainly not alone!

- Nausea— 73 percent
- Pain on one side — 59 percent

- Aura— 36 percent
- Vomiting — 29 percent
(Note: These figures are from the American Migraine Study II of almost 4,000 migraine sufferers in 1999.)

What causes migraines to run in families?
Most people with migraines, up to 70 percent, have a family history of migraines. In fact, if an immediate family member suffers from migraines you have a 14-fold increased risk of having migraines. The link between mothers with migraines and their children is stronger than the link from father to child – mothers are twice as likely to pass along migraines to children than fathers. Although most evidence points to migraines having an inherited component, there is very little that proves exactly what genes cause the disorder. In just one type of migraine, familial hemiplegic migraine, has the genetic relationship been proven.
Living with migraines.
Migraines impact almost every facet of a sufferer’s life. Often, people with migraines report a lower quality of life, have trouble sleeping, cancel social engagements and miss days from work and school because of attacks. They have also been found to have less energy between migraine attacks. Living with migraines can be a difficult challenge. Almost one-third of migraine sufferers experience moderate to severe disability. The head pain and other migraine symptoms make it difficult for many to function during attacks. Migraines are a leading cause of disability around the globe. Despite that, half of those with migraines aren’t under a doctor’s care for the condition.
